Those of you who will read the Dedication and Prefatory pages of this collection of Rabindranath's songs in English translation will have guessed from them that I have been translating his song-lyrics for a long time, and that quite a few people have encouraged me to finish this project. But I would also like to thank my family members, friends and students who have over the years requested me to translate a song or two they have loved or have helped me in the making of this book one way or the other.

I read this book shortly after I got it and didn't just put it on my TBR shelf mainly because I saw it on Reese Witherspoon's bookclub September read. It was one of the best books I've read this year, and reminded me some of Kristen Hannah's The Great Alone.
