Catherine Morland is an excitable young woman enraptured by the imaginary romantic worlds of mystery and intrigue in the gothic novels she consumes voraciously in the her country cottage home. She is invited to Bath for the Season and thrills at the prospect of fashionable gowns and flirtacious encounters with handsome young men. At first her fanciful notions are fulfilled but soon they lead her to blur the lines between imagination and the everyday. She is invited to Northanger Abbey where she endures a series of romantic and mysterious adventures which almost bring her family to shame.
Such an incredibly complex story! I had to buy it because there was a waiting list of 30+ at the local library for this book. Thrilled that I made the purchase
I read this book shortly after I got it and didn't just put it on my TBR shelf mainly because I saw it on Reese Witherspoon's bookclub September read. It was one of the best books I've read this year, and reminded me some of Kristen Hannah's The Great Alone.
